Flamingos Captain Shakirat Moshood Takes Next Step with Torreense

Former Flamingos Captain Shakirat Moshood Completes Move to Portuguese Side Torreense

Former Nigeria U-17 captain Shakirat Moshood has secured a two-year deal with Portuguese top-flight club SCU Torreense, with the club officially unveiling the talented player after she arrived in Portugal to complete the transfer.

The 19-year-old makes the switch following an impressive campaign with Bayelsa Queens in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, where her commanding performances  established her as one of the league's brightest young prospects.

Moshood first caught global attention at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in the Dominican Republic, scoring four goals to finish as the tournament's third-highest scorer while helping Nigeria's Flamingos reach the quarter-finals. Her performances earned widespread praise and confirmed her status as one of the competition's standout players.

She continued her impressive rise by leading the Flamingos as captain to another quarter-final finish at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco. Her consistency also saw her finish as runner-up for the 2025 CAF Women's Youth Player of the Year award.

Her rapid development has also earned her a place in Nigeria's 28-player provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Poland after playing an important role in the Falconets' successful qualification campaign under head coach Moses Aduku.

Moshood's move to Torreense marks her first pro experience in Europe and offers her the opportunity to compete at the highest level, with the Portuguese club set to feature in the UEFA Women's Europa Cup next season.

Her transfer further highlights the growing reputation of the NWFL as a breeding ground for elite talent, with Moshood becoming the latest Nigerian women's football star to earn a move to Europe through outstanding performances for both club and country.
