From Glory to Goodbye: Whyte Ogbonda Leaves Bayelsa Queens

Whyte Ogbonda Parts Ways with Bayelsa Queens After Trophy-Laden Two-Year Spell

Bayelsa Queens will head into the 2026/27 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership season with a new face in the dugout after head coach Whyte Ogbonda officially confirmed his departure from the club.

The experienced tactician revealed that his exit came after a mutual agreement with the club, bringing an end to a memorable two-year spell with the Prosperity Ladies. According to Ogbonda, the decision was driven by his desire to embrace a new challenge after successfully leading the Yenagoa-based side.

His announcement finally puts to rest weeks of speculation surrounding his future, with many supporters eager to know whether he would remain at the club for another campaign.

During his time at Bayelsa Queens, Ogbonda reinforced his reputation as one of the finest coaches in Nigerian women's football. He guided the club to the 2025 NWFL Premiership title, adding another major achievement to an already impressive coaching career.

Before taking charge of Bayelsa Queens, Ogbonda enjoyed remarkable success with Rivers Angels, leading the Port Harcourt club to the 2024 President Federation Cup title while also winning several league and cup honours during his time there.

His coaching journey has also seen him make significant impacts elsewhere. He led Confluence Queens to a runners-up finish in the NWFL Premiership and secured qualification for the Super Six. At Ibom Angels, he guided the team to consecutive President Federation Cup finals, further highlighting his consistency and ability to build competitive sides.

As he steps away from Bayelsa Queens, Ogbonda leaves behind a legacy of success and excellence. His track record of winning trophies and transforming teams into genuine title contenders is expected to make him one of the most sought-after coaches ahead of the new season.

While the veteran manager is yet to reveal his next destination, there is little doubt that several clubs will be monitoring his situation closely as they prepare for the 2026/27 campaign.
