From NWFL Glory to a New Frontier: Tosan Blankson Makes Men's Football Move

Former Rivers Angels head coach Tosan Bob Blankson has officially brought his chapter in women's football to a close after attracting interest from elite men's clubs eager to secure his services.

Blankson leaves the women's game as one of Nigeria's most accomplished coaches. He etched his name into the history books in 2023 by guiding Delta Queens to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title with an unbeaten run at the Super Six in Asaba—becoming the only coach to achieve the feat.

During his two-year stint with Rivers Angels, the experienced tactician further strengthened his reputation by leading the Port Harcourt-based side to the 2025 President Federation Cup title at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

His impressive résumé and proven track record have now opened the door to a new challenge in men's football. Despite interest from several NWFL clubs, none were able to present an offer strong enough to keep the Delta State-born coach in the women's game.

Blankson's coaching credentials extend beyond the NWFL. In 2019, he took charge of Apex Krane FC and played a pivotal role in the club's rise from the Nationwide League One (NLO) to the Nigeria National League (NNL). He remained at the helm throughout the club's second-tier campaigns, leading the side against established teams such as Bendel Insurance, Gateway United, and Crown FC during the 2020/21 NNL season.

Earlier in his career, Blankson also served as head coach of Delta Force FC in 2017, overseeing the Asaba-based club during its campaign in the Nigeria National League.

With a career built on consistency, success, and player development, Blankson now embarks on a fresh chapter in men's football, where his wealth of experience is expected to make an immediate impact.

CAF YOU NEED TO WAKE UP

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has showed her disappointment following the Confederation of African Football’s decision to postpone the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. CAF announced on Thursday that the tournament, originally scheduled to kick off in Morocco on 17 March, has been moved to July 2026. The continental football body said the postponement was due to unforeseen circumstances. Some of the 16 qualified teams had preparations in top gear ahead of the competition and took part in friendly matches during the recent international window. Nigeria’s Super Falcons played two friendlies against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses as part of their build up. Ajibade responded to the development on social media, sharing her frustration over the decision. “African women’s football deserves better,” Ajibade was quoted on X, adding a disappointed emoji.
