Loyalty Wins: Seyi Olaoye Rejects Rivers Angels, Backs Danjuma

Seyi Olaoye Rejects Rivers Angels Offer, Chooses Loyalty to Nasarawa Amazons.hooses Loyalty to Nasarawa Amazons

Nasarawa Amazons assistant coach, Seyi Olaoye, has turned down the opportunity to become the new head coach of Rivers Angels, opting instead to remain with the Lafia-based club.

The Port Harcourt side approached Olaoye following the departure of former head coach Tosan Bob Blankson, who recently brought his spell with the club to an end. Rivers Angels identified the experienced tactician as a leading candidate to take charge, given his years of experience and impressive work alongside veteran coach Christopher Danjuma.

Sources indicate that Rivers Angels presented Olaoye with an improved financial package in an attempt to lure him to Port Harcourt. However, despite the attractive offer and sustained efforts from the club's management, he declined the proposal.

His decision is understood to have been driven by his commitment to Nasarawa Amazons and his longstanding working relationship with Christopher Danjuma, under whom he has served for several years.

Widely regarded as one of the most respected assistant coaches in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), Olaoye has built a reputation for his tactical discipline and player development. His coaching philosophy emphasizes a possession-based style of play, encouraging his teams to move the ball quickly on the ground while making effective use of the wide areas to unlock opposing defenses.

Known for his demanding standards, Olaoye expects his players to execute tactical instructions with precision and has never hidden his frustration when avoidable defensive mistakes or poor application of training-ground routines cost the team.

Over the years, he has also stepped into the role of acting head coach during periods when Christopher Danjuma was away on national team assignments, leading the team through important pre-season competitions and league fixtures.

Olaoye was a key member of the technical crew that guided Nasarawa Amazons to the NFF Federation Cup title, as the Solid Babes defeated Heartland Queens 5-4 on penalties after a fiercely contested final.

For now, Rivers Angels will have to continue their search for a new head coach, while Nasarawa Amazons retain one of the league's most highly regarded tactical minds.
