Edo Queens Handed Tough Road to WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Glory

NWFL Premiership champions Edo Queens have been handed a tough group in the 2026 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

The Nigerian champions will compete in Group B alongside defending champions ASEC Mimosa of Côte d’Ivoire, Ampem Darkoa of Ghana, and AS GNN of Niger Republic.

The biggest test for Edo Queens will be ASEC Mimosa, who won the 2025 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers after defeating another Nigerian club, Bayelsa Queens, on penalties in the final.

Edo Queens will also face Ampem Darkoa and AS GNN as they fight for a place in the knockout stage of the competition.

Group A

Group A consists of hosts USFAS of Burkina Faso, Dynamique of Benin Republic, and ASKO of Togo.

Edo Queens’ Continental Experience

Edo Queens made their debut in the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers in 2024 and enjoyed an impressive campaign, winning the tournament and securing qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

At the CAF Women’s Champions League, the Nigerian side reached the semi-finals but lost to eventual champions TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

They later suffered another defeat against FC Masar of Egypt in the third-place match, finishing fourth in the competition.

Dates for the Competition

The 2026 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers will take place from August 23 to September 5.

The team that wins the tournament will earn the WAFU-B zone’s ticket to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.

With ASEC Mimosa, Ampem Darkoa and AS GNN standing in their way, Edo Queens will need to be at their best if they want to repeat their previous continental success.
