After years of making history and lifting trophies in Nigeria’s women’s football, respected tactician Tosan Bob Blankson has officially opened a new chapter in his coaching career, taking charge of Calabar Rovers with a promise to restore pride, ambition and the fighting spirit associated with the historic club.

The experienced coach was officially unveiled today as the new head coach of Rovers of Calabar, marking a significant transition in a coaching journey that has seen him establish himself as one of the accomplished tacticians in Nigerian football.

The unveiling ceremony was led by Club Chairman, Chief Ita Okon, who formally presented Blankson to the club and handed him the official Calabar Rovers team jersey, symbolising the beginning of a new era under the experienced tactician.

The moment provided a fitting introduction to a coach whose career has been built around ambition, resilience and the pursuit of success.

Blankson arrives at Calabar Rovers with a reputation forged through years of hard work, tactical discipline and trophy-winning performances, particularly within Nigeria's women's football landscape.

His journey through the female football circle saw him take charge of Delta Queens, Rivers Angels and other sides, leaving behind an impressive record of competitive performances and silverware.

One of the defining moments of his career came in 2023 when Blankson guided Delta Queens to the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership title. The achievement was made even more remarkable by the manner in which it was accomplished, with Delta Queens completing the Super Six campaign unbeaten to lift the championship on home soil in Asaba.

That triumph further cemented Blankson's reputation as a coach capable of delivering when the pressure is at its highest.

His success continued during his two-year spell with Rivers Angels, one of the most decorated clubs in Nigerian women's football.

Blankson guided the Port Harcourt-based side to the 2025 President Federation Cup title, adding another major trophy to his collection and demonstrating once again his ability to compete for honours at the highest level.

But while his achievements in women's football have earned him recognition, Blankson's coaching career has never been restricted to the female game.

His latest appointment provides him with the opportunity to bring his experience, tactical philosophy and winning mentality into men's football.

Blankson is no stranger to the men's game.

In 2019, he took charge of Apex Krane FC and played a pivotal role in the club's rise from the Nationwide League One to the Nigeria National League. He subsequently remained in charge as head coach during their NNL campaigns, managing the side against established second-tier opponents.

He also served as head coach of Delta Force FC in 2017 when the Asaba-based club competed in the Nigeria National League.

Those experiences, combined with his achievements in women's football, have shaped Blankson into a coach with a broad understanding of the Nigerian football landscape.

Now, his attention turns fully to Rovers of Calabar.

And at his unveiling, Blankson made it clear that he is not viewing the appointment simply as another coaching job. For him, it represents a responsibility and a promise to a club whose badge carries deep meaning for the people of Calabar.

Speaking after being unveiled by Chief Ita Okon, Blankson said:

«“Today is not about me being unveiled. It’s about a promise. I am proud to be the Coach of Rovers of Calabar. The badge represents history, pride and the fighting spirit of this city.”»

He added:

«“The work will soon start. Definitely, we will get to our destination. Amen.”»

The statement captures the ambition surrounding his arrival.

For a club carrying the history and identity of Calabar, Blankson's appointment represents an opportunity to build something significant.

The challenge, however, will not be an easy one.

The trophies Blankson won with Delta Queens and Rivers Angels belong to the past. His immediate task is to build a new team, establish a clear football philosophy, develop players and create a side capable of competing strongly in men's football.

But if his career has shown anything, it is that Blankson is familiar with rebuilding projects and demanding assignments.

From guiding teams through promotion battles to winning major trophies, the tactician has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to take on challenges and pursue success.

Now, the next challenge is Rovers of Calabar.

With Chief Ita Okon officially handing him the club jersey, the symbolism of the appointment could hardly be clearer: a new coach, a historic badge and a fresh promise to the people of Calabar.

Blankson will now be expected to transform his words into action and translate his experience into performances on the pitch.

For the coach himself, this is more than simply moving from women's football to men's football.

It is an opportunity to demonstrate that his coaching qualities, tactical knowledge and winning mentality can thrive in a new environment.

After conquering major stages in women's football, Tosan Blankson now begins a fresh journey with Rovers of Calabar.

The promise has been made.

The jersey has been handed over.

The badge has been embraced.

Now, the work begins.

And as Blankson takes charge of Rovers, the people of Calabar will be watching closely, hoping that this new chapter will become the beginning of another successful story in the club's proud history.
